Roy J. Cooke

August 12, 1930 — March 14, 2010

Salina, Utah - Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, Roy Jackson Cooke, age 79, of Salina, died March 14, 2010 in Gunnison, Utah of a heart attack. He was born August 12, 1930 in Cedar Bluff, Mississippi, a son of Oscar Andrew and Edna Hydrick Cooke. Roy served in the US Army during the Korean War. He married Marilyn Crane, June 13, 1953. He attended Snow College and the University of Utah. Roy served on the Salina City Council and was the past commander of the Salina American Legion and was currently serving as the Post Adjutant. He served as a counselor at Utah Boys State. He was a member of the Centerfield First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. Roy is survived by his wife of Salina; children: Douglas and Mary Jo Cooke of Erda; Bruce and Patricia Cooke of West Valley City; Paula Ivie and Dan Ennis of Sandy; Patricia and Nikki Cooke of Murray; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Charles A. Cooke of Salt Lake City and Paul J. Cooke of Burlington, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister and two brothers: Evelyn Cooke, George Cooke and Herbert Cooke. The family would like to express sincere appreciation to Dr. Dwight H. Inouye and the Central Utah Clinic. Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 19, 2010 at 12 Noon in the Salina American Legion Hall, 50 South State Street in Salina, where friends may call for viewing Thursday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or Friday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Salina American Legion Post #36 will be in the Salina Eastside Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
