Roy Knapton

Koosharem, Utah - LeRoy Lewis “Roy” Knapton, age 70, died November 25, 2005 in Richfield, Utah. He was born September 9, 1935 in Salt Lake City, a son of Walter Lewis and Agnes Porter Kirby Knapton. He graduated from Granite High School and served an LDS Mission to the Gulf States Mission areas of Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi. He married Lydia Anneliesa Adam, June 19, 1959 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were later divorced. He married Yvonne Irma Carlson Hampton, February 20, 1980 in Elko, Nevada. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Jordan River LDS Temple. Roy was a heavy equipment operator and worked for Kennecott Copper. He loved fishing, hunting, camping, and tying flies. He enjoyed telling old stories of school, fishing, camping and work days. Roy is survived by his loving wife and care giver, Yvonne, of Koosharem; his children: Becky and Clayton Thorn of Riverton; Patricia Knapton of Port Townsend, Washington; David and Clarie Knapton of South Jordan; step-children: Tonia Hampton, Troy Hampton, Terrin and Dawn Hampton, all of Koosharem; Tina and Lee Wilkening of Provo; Tracy and Deana Hampton of Salt Lake City; Tammy Hampton of St. George; adopted son: Grant Sutton of Eagle Mountain; 24 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Ray and Eva Knapton of Fruitland, Utah; Howard Knapton of West Jordan. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister: David Knapton, Lynn Knapton and Lorraine Aylworth. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 2, 2005 at 1:00 P.M. in the Koosharem LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may call for viewing Friday morning from 11:00 to12:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Koosharem Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
