Salina, Utah - Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Ruby Ann Nelson Gates, age 58, of Salina, died March 4, 2008 in Gunnison, Utah, after a long and hard fought battle with cancer. She was born July 30, 1949 in St. George, Utah, a daughter of James Mark and Wenda Ruth Dutton Nelson. She married Kim Donald Gates, July 21, 1967 in the St. George LDS Temple. Ruby graduated from North Sevier High School and attended Dixie College. She was an active member of the LDS Church, serving as a Primary teacher, Ward Librarian, and the Ward and Stake Family History Consultant. She organized a petition to save the Gooseberry Youth Camp and was a Forest Service Volunteer for 20 years. Ruby like being out doors, going camping and she loved to hunt, fish and especially enjoyed being at her cabin in Fish Lake, that she had designed. She also enjoyed four-wheeling, doing crafts, quilting and was a master at designing wedding cakes. She had a strong desire to be with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Kim Gates, of Salina; her children: Donnie Mark and Teresa Gates, William Kirby and Angie Gates, Kimberly Angela and David Roberts, Jamie Kay Gates, Dustin Daniel and Teri Gates, all of Salina; Joshua Lynn and Heather Gates of Greenville; 14 grandchildren; sisters and brothers: Wenda Turnbeaugh, Lola Todd, Heber Nelson and Shirley Jones, all of St. George; Hellen Thorsen and Lee Nelson, both of Washington; Penny Gates of Salina; mother-in-law: Doraleen Gates of Salina. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Wenda Nelson and her father-in-law: Donald John Gates. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 8, 2008 at 12 Noon in the Salina LDS Stake Center, 98 West 400 North in Salina, where friends may call for viewing Friday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or Saturday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Salina Eastside Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
