Rulon L. Miller

June 18, 1936 — July 26, 2015

Redmond, Utah - Rulon Laird Miller, age 79, died July 26, 2015 at his home in Redmond, surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 18, 1936 in Twin Falls, Idaho, a son of Elezar and Carmen Holland Miller. Rulon joined the US Army in 1954 and served as a paratrooper and cook. In January of 1955 he married Betty Ann Bean in Twin Falls. In June of 1959 they were baptized into the LDS Church and sealed their marriage in the St. George LDS Temple in May of 1963. After the military, Rulon attended Heavy Equipment School in Idaho and spent his livelihood in related jobs, including working for WW Clyde Construction Company, he owned and operated his own semi-truck, and after 19 years at UDOT in Salina and Richfield, he retired in 2005. After retiring, he drove Hot Shot Deliveries for another 5 years. Rulon's love was airplanes and his joy was giving first airplane rides to kids of all ages. In his lifetime, he owned 6 airplanes, 4 of which were homebuilt and one bi-plane that he built. Rulon is survived by his loving wife, Betty, of Redmond; sons: Timothy and Barbara Miller of Redmond; Harvey and Carol Miller of Hesperia, California; daughter: Bonnie and Masato Kumangai of South Jordan; 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother: Michael Kent and Ruth Miller of Idaho; sister: Jackie and Brian Williamson of West Valley City. He was preceded in death by his father and step-mother: Elezar and Vivetta Miller and his mother, Carmen Miller. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 1, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. in the Redmond 1st LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may call for viewing Friday evening from 6 to 8 P.M . or Saturday morning from 9:00 to 10:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Redmond American Legion Post #118 and the Utah Honor Guard will be in the Redmond City Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
