Fremont, Utah - Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, neighbor and Hero, Scott Lewis Blackburn, age 72, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2018 at his home in Fremont, with his family at his side, after a short but courageous battle with stomach cancer and just four months after the death of his father, Lewis Blackburn. Scott was born February 20, 1946 in Salina, Utah, a son of Lewis Goff and Donna Albrecht Blackburn. He graduated from Wayne High School, Class of 1964. He then graduated from Dixie College in St. George with an Associate's Degree in Science. After attending Dixie, he decided to serve a mission for the LDS Church, serving in the New Zealand Southern Mission. Shortly after returning home from his mission, Dad was drafted into the US Army where he served in Viet Nam for 12 months. He was awarded 2 different Heroism awards. Dad married his sweetheart and the love of his life, Dixie Lee Salt June 11, 1971 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Dad learned to work hard at a young age on his Dad's family ranch, pitching hay onto a wagon that led to the hard working man that he became. Dad had his own ranch and a full time job working as a Lineman and Meter Technician for Garkane Power. Dad filled many positions in the LDS Church and the Community. Some of these were Sunday School President and Fremont Ward Clerk, Wayne County Planning and Zoning, Fremont Water Board, Secretary for the Tidwell Grazers Association, and the Harold Brown American Legion Post #92. Dad loved the outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, camping and riding four wheelers with this family and riding his horse. Dad's most precious moments were the times he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and 2 new great-grandchildren. He loved and spent time playing and talking to each one of them He will surely be missed by all. Scott is survived by his beloved wife, Dixie, of Fremont; his children: Melinda McConnell of Fremont; Melissa and Jason Millett of St. George; Brandon and Amber Blackburn of Fremont; 12 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sisters: Paula and Rick Roberts of Monroe; Lesa and Steve Rasmussen of Fremont; Tamyra and Ronald Perkins of Erda. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Donna Blackburn; his brother, Ronnie Blackburn and his sister, Erlene Curtis. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 1:00P.M. in the Fremont LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home in Richfield, Friday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or at the ward chapel in Fremont, Saturday morning from 11:00 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Harold Brown American Legion Post #92 and the Utah Honor Guard will be in the Fremont Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
