Scott L. Durfey

April 5, 1938 — December 12, 2007

Loa, Utah - Scott Leon Durfey, our loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, age 69, of Salem and formerly of Loa, died December 12, 2007 at his home in Salem from Pancreatic and Liver Cancer. He was born April 5, 1938 in Teasdale, Utah, a son of George Lawrence and Clea King Durfey. He married Sherry Ann Van Dyke, July 11, 1959 in the Manti LDS Temple. Scott’s greatest treasurers in life were his wife and his seven children: Gary and LeAnn Durfey, Michael and Sharon Durfey, Roger and Tina Durfey, Dennis and Angela Durfey, Vicky and Marty Ray, Cody Durfey and Scott E. Durfey. He is also the proud grandfather of 11 grandchildren, whom he loved very much. Scott accomplished many things in his life. He worked for the US Forest Service as a Recreation a nd Maintenance Ranger. Most of his working time was spent on the Fish Lake National Forest, which he enjoyed very much. Scott also spent most of his life working and running a farm. Some of his favorite memories were riding horses and gathering cattle with his family and friends. Scott was a very outgoing and community oriented individual. Helping and serving others is what brought him the most joy and satisfaction in life. Scott served on the Wayne County School Board, the Six County Mental Health Board, The Sevier Valley Tech Board, The Loa Town Board and as a Wayne County Commissioner. He also served as a Wayne County Volunteer EMT for 20 years. Scott was an active member of the LDS Church, where he served as Scout Master, Young Mens President, Elders Quorum President, Bishop, High Councilman and Stake President of the Loa Utah Stake. He is survived by his wife and children: also, three brothers and three sisters: Karnell Durfey, Russell Durfey, Larry Durfey, Lawana Jones, Lois Baker and Edra Durfey. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Clem Durfey, sister Renon Durfey and twin granddaughters: Tristen and Trina Durfey. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 15, 2007 at 1:00 P.M. in the Loa LDS Stake Center, where friends may call for viewing Saturday morning from 11:00 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Loa Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
