Richfield, Utah- Shawn Michael Castagna, age 42, passed away February 19, 2024, at his home in Richfield. He is a beloved father, uncle, son, brother, cousin, and a friend to many. He had devoted his life to Bobbie and their 4 children.
Shawn was born August 31, 1981 to Ilian Watson and Michael Castagna, in Price, Utah. Shawn lived in Carbon County for a short time, but moved with his family (Ilian, Big C.J, Adriann and Chantil) to Mt. Pleasant, Utah, soon after, welcoming his little brother Baby CJ. He moved to Pontiac, Illinois, with his little brother and his step-dad. While in Illinois, Shawn excelled in little league baseball as he dreamed of being a professional baseball player, beginning his passion for the New York Yankees - Just kidding, we all know it was the Boston Red Sox. During this time, he got to learn some of the fundamentals of humanity that he carried with him for the rest of his life.
When he moved back to Utah, he was strong and smart, and knew how to do pretty much anything. While in his teenage years, Shawn showed his love for BMX racing, and could build a bike from odds and ends he found laying around. He was a very skilled tinker-er! He loved working with his grandfather on their many different projects, in fact, his grandpa Donnie was his all-time idol.
Shawn graduated from High School in 2000, and began taking college courses at the College of Eastern Utah, but his lifelong dream was to be a trucker (so he could honk his horn at all the little kids).
Anyone that knew Shawn, knew how he was all heart. He would give the shirt from his back if you needed it. Shawn's sense of humor and boisterous personality would light up any room. He had a way of making sure you knew you were important to him and would tease those closest to him relentlessly. He was the biggest kid at heart and wasn't afraid to be silly.
Shawn moved to Richfield in 2010 with his little sister Chantil. Shortly after he moved here, he met the love of his life Bobbie Martinez. He proudly became the father of Carter Warren. Shawn and Bobbie welcomed 3 more beautiful children Teagan Lillian, Boson Cruz, and Dayton Eugene.
In 2019 Shawn had the opportunity to pursue his childhood dream. He attended Sage Trucking in Sandy Ut, in July of 2019 Shawn got the opportunity to work for Bill Anderson Trucking. He was so excited to finally live out his childhood dream. Although his first trip out was a bit rocky, it didn't take him long to be comfortable driving an 18-Wheeler. He absolutely enjoyed taking his kids on the truck with him.
He loved to take his kids fishing and camping where his boys would tease him about always catching the smallest fish. Shawn loved to jump in the truck with no destination and explore all the mountains around Sevier County. He got to coach Carter’s baseball team one year, although his career was demanding, and he wasn't able to coach any other years. He would attend every game he could and coach his boys at home. Teagan being his only little princess he would let his little girl paint his toenails and do his make-up! He was a true sport when it came to his children and what they wanted to do in life!
Shawn is survived by Bobbie Kelso; his children: Carter, Teagan, Boston, and Dayton; siblings: Adriann (Pat) Powers, Chantil Breneman, Charles (Shannon) Jacobs and Joseph Castagna . Shawn also had many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins and “adopted” family.
He is preceded in death by his father Michael Castagna; mother Ilian Watson Tuft; step-father Charles Jacobs; father in law Bob Martinez; grandparents Donald Watson, Louise Keel, Charles and Gwynneth Castagna; nephew Daryn Hall; and many others.
