Stan L. Simpson

October 27, 1936 — January 23, 2017

Salina, Utah - Our kind and beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, Stanley Leon Simpson, age 80, of Salina, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on January 23, 2017 in Gunnison, Utah. He was born October 27, 1936 in Gunnison, a son of Mike and Mable Leona Watts Simpson. He graduated from Gunnison High School, Class of 1953. He served his country in the United States Army from August of 1956 to August of 1958. He was in the Battery A 96th AntiAircraft Battalion. He married the love of his life, DeNeece Okerlund, January 21, 1961 in Salina, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple, January 29,1972. Stan coached baseball, basketball, refereed and umpired for over 41 years. During that time, he touched and molded the lives of many, many young men in the North Sevier area. He was influential in forming the future of many kids that were under his care as a coach. He loved them and wanted the best for each one of them. Stan was an active member of the LDS Church. He served in many different callings, and enjoyed their weekly trips to the Manti Temple. He loved to hunt, fish, golf, play pool and spend time with his family. Family was very important to Stan, and he truly loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed. Stan is survived by his beloved wife, DeNeece Simpson of Salina; son: Kevin Simpson and his fiancee, Diana Balmain of Kemmerer, Wyoming; daughter: Lori and Trent Hallows of Salina; 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Viola Larsen of Salina; a sister-in-law: LaDawn and Joe McGee of Provo. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Leora Peterson, Arva Shaw and Bobby Simpson. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Judy, and the nurses and staff at the Gunnison Valley Hospital, for their tender care of our dear husband and father during his final days on this earth. They truly went above and beyond in their care of Stan. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. in the Salina LDS Stake Center, 98 West 400 North in Salina, where friends may call for viewing Friday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or Saturday morning from 9:00 to 10:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Salina American Legion Post #36 and the Utah Honor Guard will be in the Salina Eastside Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
