Stephanie Prisbrey Gunnison, Utah - On Tuesday afternoon, June 22, 2004, the Spirit of our beautful daughter, sister, aunt, granddaughter, niece and friend, Stephanie Prisbrey, blithely danced away like a butterfly in a meadow of clover, a radiant glow of sunshine on her face, and free at last from the oxygen that has held her captive for over 15 years. Eager to fulfill her destiny, she came into this life with little warning in the early afternoon of October 27, 1965 in Salt Lake City,Utah to Karen Christine Carlston and Blaine Prince Prisbrey. An overactive exuberant child, there was little that would occupy her time for more than five minutes. She was anxious to experience every facet of life and felt for some reason that she had a lot of living to do in a very short space of time and she had to make the most of every opportunity. At the tender age of thirteen, she was diagnosed with a very rare lung disease, Idiopathic Pulmonary Hemosiderosis and was told she might only live two to five years, if she were lucky. Life, as Stephanie had known it, took on a much slower pace and amazingly with faith and determination, she beat all the odds staked against her, and lived twenty-five years more. She graduated from Gunnison Valley High School and LDS Seminary, attended two plus years of education at Snow Junior College and became Librarian over the Gunnison City Library, a position she has held for three years. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served faithfully in many church callings including the Young Women’s Organization as a teacher and secretary. She also served as the Stake Young Women’s Secretary. Stephanie was endowed February 9, 1990 at the Manti LDS Temple. A gentle loving young woman, and always concerned about the needs and welfare of others, she desired to be an organ and tissue donor. Sadly, because of the unknown ramifications of her lung disease, she was onloy able to donate her corneas that others might see. Stephanie is survived by her parents of Gunnison; brothers: Dennis and Staci of Aurora; Devin and Ginger of St. George; Lindsay and Tresa of Boise; sisters: Frances and David Groves of West Jordan; Lynette and Chuck Giles of Heber City; a grandmother, Marjorie S. Carlston of Sandy; 12 nephews and four nieces. She was preceded in death by a nephew; a sister, Stacy Lundin; grandparents: John Robert Carlston, Henry J. and Zina Prince Prisbrey. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 26, 2004 at 12 Noon in the Gunnison LDS Stake Center, 80 West Center Street in Gunnison, where friends may call for viewing Friday evening from 7 to 9 P.M. and Saturday morning from 10:30 to11:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Gunnison City Cemetery under the direction of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah. As a celebration of her life, Stephanie requests that only bright colored clothing be worn, NO black, brown, navy blue or dark gray. In lieu of flowers, she requests that donations be made to the Gunnison City Library in her name for the purpose of replacing worn out carpeting. The Gunnison Third Ward Young Women are compiling a booklet of their memories of Stephanie to pass on to her family, and ask that if you have some personal thoughts to share, that you send them to one of the Young Women’s Presidency or to Lori Birch, PO Box 161, Gunnison, UT. 84634.
