Salina, Utah - Our kind and beloved husband and father, Stephen Kenneth Taylor, age 48, died in a hiking accident on Saturday, June 27, 2009 in Mellor Canyon in Sanpete County, Utah. He was born February 5, 1961 in Newfane, New York. Stephen started studying Martial Arts in 1973 and continued to study various forms of self defense until his death. He graduated from Wilson High School, Class of 1979 in Wilson, New York, and then attended UCLA in California. Stephen married Sherrilynn Gough Nicol, October 24, 1987 in Lewiston, New York. He enjoyed being a husband and loving father to his two children, Miles and Alexa. He joined the US Army in 1996 and was honorably discharged in 2004. Stephen enjoyed riding his motorcycle, hiking and researching ancient signs and symbols, teaching martial arts, making people laugh, researching local history, being with his family and pets, metal detecting, guns and edged weapons, and cooking oriental cuisine, among other dishes. He is survived and will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Sherrilynn and their two children: Miles Bruce Taylor and Alexa Romay Taylor, all of Salina; his parents-in-law: Robert and Blanche Nicol of Clemmons, North Carolina; brothers and sisters-in-law: James and Lisa Nicol of Sisters, Oregon; Robert and Susan Greene of Bristol, Virginia. At his request, his remains have been cremated and will return home with the family. There will be a celebration of Stephen's life at the convenience of the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Bill Thomas, Stephen's good friend, is heading up an effort to raise money so that Stephen's name can be included at the Sevier Valley Veteran's Memorial as well as help out his widow and kids.
