Steve B. Brown

Loa, Utah - Steve Burton Brown, age 79, passed away peacefully at his home in Loa September 4, 2010, with his loving wife by his side. He was born 25 May 1931 in Huntington, Utah, the youngest of the ten children of John William and Minnie Hall Brown. He attended North Emery High School, and then joined the US Navy where he honorably served for 4 years. He was married to his sweetheart, Allie Taylor, 29 January 1952 in the Manti LDS Temple. He graduated from Carbon College (now CEU) in Price and from Weber State College with a bachelor degree in criminal justice. He joined the Utah Highway Patrol in August 1956 and was stationed in Loa, Utah. He retired from the High Patrol after 26 years and was elected as Wayne County Sheriff where he served for four years. He was involved in all the Peace Officer Associations in the state. He was active in the US Coast Guard Reserve for 21 years where he was involved in the Exxon-Valdez oil spill clean-up in Alaska in 1989. He spent 14 months supervising munitions loading during Desert Shield/Desert Storm in Port Chicago, Concord California. He was the first and only Master Chief from the Salt Lake Unit. Steve was an integral part of the American Legion organization in the Harold Brown post 92. He also held positions on the District and Department level. Steve was instrumental in bringing the first ambulances to Wayne and surrounding counties. He was on the Emergency Services Board, teaching and coordinating EMT courses throughout the state. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and held many positions. Steve worked hard at many jobs throughout his life. He learned to work at a young age and worked hard. People knew that he always gave a full day’s work for a full day’s pay. He has left a legacy of honesty, integrity and hard work. He set a wonderful example for his children and grandchildren and he expects us to follow that model. He is survived by his wife of 58 wonderful years, Allie of Loa, and children Peggy (Dean) Chappell of Lyman, Bruce (Ramona) Brown of Bluebell, Dwight Brown of Loa, Dwayne (Brenda) Brown of Salina, 19 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren, sister-in-laws LaRee Brown of Orangeville and Roxella Brown of Tooele. He was preceded in death by his parents and all nine of his siblings. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 11, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. in the Loa LDS Stake Center Loa, Utah. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home in Richfield, Friday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or Saturday at the church in Loa from 10:00 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Harold Brown American Legion Post #92 and the Utah Highway Patrol Honor Guard, will be in the Loa Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
