Steven Colby

July 26, 1944 — February 12, 2014

Sigurd, Utah - Steven Colby, age 69, of Sigurd, passed away peacefully February 12, 2014 in Provo, Utah, from complications from surgery, surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 26, 1944 in Sigurd, a son of Walter Elisha and Gerogia Iola Manwill Colby.   Steven served his country in the United States Army during the Viet Nam Conflict from December 1965 to December 1966.  After leaving Viet Nam, he was assigned to Fort Hood, Texas, where he trianed troops who were being sent to Viet Nam.  He was discharged June 22, 1967. Steven married his sweetheart, Shirley Ann Torgersen, August 14, 1971 in Ely, Nevada. Steven worked in construction for most of his life.  He was a truck driver and cement finisher.  He also worked at Georgia Pacifi for 9 years.  He loved the outdoors, especially fishing (that was his favorite).  He was also a great story teller, that we will miss.  He loved spending time at Dave's in Sigurd, every morning, having his morning coffee with his friends.  Dad, thank you for all the memories, the laughs, the stories and all the fun.  Thank you for always being there for us.  We will never forget those last few hours we got to spend with you.  Love you forever. Steven is survived by his loving wife, Shirely Ann, of Sigurd; his children: Traci and Gill Nichols of Elsinore; Wade and Karylene Colby of Monroe; Stephanie and Kerry Baker of Sigurd; 6 grandchilden; 1 great-grandchild; brothers: Don Colby of Monroe; Doug Colby of American Fork and Larry Colby of Kearns. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters: Larae Anderson and Marceil Snedeger. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at 12 Noon in the Sigurd LDS Ward Chapel.  Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home in Richfield, Monday evening from 6 to 8 P.M or at the ward chapel in Sigurd, Tuesday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 prior to the services.  Burial with military honors accorded by the VFW Sevier Post #5050 and the Utah Honor Guard will be in the Sigurd Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
