Steven Hatch

October 19, 1950 — February 6, 2020

HANKSVILLE - Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, Harold Steven Hatch, age 69, died from complications due to cancer on Feb. 6, 2020, surrounded by his family in Richfield, Utah. He was born in Salt Lake City, October 19, 1950, a son of Gordon and Norma Ekker Hatch, and the grandson of Harold and Nell Ekker of Hanksville. He graduated from Green River High School in 1969, where he met his sweetheart Carolyn Reay. He was a basketball player, drummer, and loved roaming around the desert and mountains of southeastern Utah with his Grandpa Harold. He attended Utah State University and Dixie College before marrying his wife, Carolyn on March 11, 1972 in Green River. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple August 19, 1981. Steven worked for 32 years for the Utah Department of Transportation. He served as a Wayne County Justice of the Peace and as a firefighter for the town of Hanksville. He also served as Bishop of the Hanksville LDS ward for several years and during that time he developed many close relationships and had an influence on many of the youth. His home was welcome to all. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, trapping, hunting, mining, playing music, and had a passion for rock hounding. More than anything, Steven was a family man and loved each and every one of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren with all of his heart. The world has lost a beloved, spirited man. Steven is survived by his father, Gordon Hatch of Richfield; his wife, Carolyn Hatch of Hanksville; his children, Kori and Fred Weihing of Hanksville; Amy Gleave of St. George; Sheldon Hatch and Joseph Garcia of Salt Lake City; Dana and Ben Hewitt of Draper; his brothers Kevin and Susie Hatch of Hanksville; Landon D. Hatch of West Jordan; Robert Peterson of California; his sister Kathy Fulton of Canada; his 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his mother, Norma, and his son, Steven Shae Hatch. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 1:00 P.M. in the Hanksville LDS Chapel, where friends may call for viewing Saturday from 10:00 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. prior to the services. Burial will be in the Hanksville Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The American Cancer Society.
