Steven R. Johanson

January 1, 1951 — January 2, 2015

Old truckers never die. They just get a new Peterbilt. Salina, Utah - Steven Johanson was the first baby born on New Year’s Day, 1951, In Sevier County Utah. Lila and Ralph Johanson were rewarded with a new baby boy and a whole case of baby powder. Steven was the only boy in a family that eventually included four girls. Outliving Steve is his sisters, Kathy (Max) Larsen, Barbara (Dean) Landon, and Beth (Paul) Blair. Getting out of this world before him was his sister Ruth (Rod) Griffin. Steve grew up raising hell and having fun in Salina Utah. He attended (sometimes) North Sevier High. Steve joined the Marines Corp at the age of 17. He was sent to Vietnam where he served as a field operator as the rank of Sargent. After Vietnam Steve met and then married Joyce Low. Together they had three incredible daughters, Kammie (Dan) Schultz, Becky (Shane) Moore, and Joni (Ryan) Kammerer. Steve has seven grandkids from his daughters. Steve met and married Jeanie Evans on June 23, 1990, later sealed in the Manti Temple. Jeanie brought three fun boys to the marriage, Tyler, Bradley, and Matthew Peterson. Soon Steve and Jeanie welcomed two boys of their own, Ryker Johanson, and Austin (Haley) Johanson. Steve and Jeanie loved watching Ryker and Austin play basketball at North Sevier High. Austin and Haley gave him his last two grandkids, Kamden his constant companion and friend, and Keagan who hasn’t arrived just yet. Steve loved his fourteen grandkids. He was so excited to meet his fifteen that he left us too damn early. Steve was a trucker. He came through life making deliveries of happiness and fun. He loved pets, jokes, and President Obama. He was always making people laugh. Steve was full of it……..good advice and love that is! Steve passed away after getting his ass kicked by pancreatic cancer (his words), those that were there would tell you he fought like hell. Steve died on January 2, 2015. He was 64 years old. We will miss his laugh, especially when he laughed so hard that no sound came out. Roll on 18 wheeler roll on. A memorial service will be held on Saturday January 10, 2015, at the Salina second ward cultural hall between 12:00 Noon and 2:00 PM. Graveside services with military honors accorded by the Salina American Legion Post #36 and the Utah Honor Guard will be in the Salina Eastside Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
