Ted R. King

LaHabra, CA/Teasdale, UT - Our kind and beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, Teddy Rice King, age 91, of LaHabra, California, died August 22, 2009 in LaHabra. He was born June 3, 1918 in Salina, Utah, a son of Edmund Rice and Cora Jane Williams King. He graduated from Wayne High School, Class of 1936. He married Kathleen Okerlund, September 15, 1937 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died January 29, 1938. He married Melva Davis, August 8, 1941 in the Logan LDS Temple. Ted received his BS Degree from Utah State University in 1941 and later attended Washington State University. He served in the US Army during WWII, from 1942 to 1946. Ted was an active member of the LDS Church, serving as a Counselor in a Bishopric, in the Sunday School Presidency, Ward Clerk, High Priest Group Assistant and Home Teacher. He served as President of the Farm Bureau in Wayne County, and as an Officer in the Cattlemens Association; he supervised Soil Conservation Projects in Wayne County, and he worked for the Veterans-On-Farm Program for 10 years. Ted enjoyed video photography, gardening and traveling the world. He is survived by his wife Melva, of LaHabra; children: Teddy Louise and Andrew Jackson of Pleasanton, CA; Kathleen and James Hallstrom, JR of Kailua, Hawaii; Janice and Daniel Schiefelbine of San Clement, California; Forrest D. and Marsha King of Gilbert, Arizona; Emmett J. and Brenda King of Snellville, Georgia; 23 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Lou Black of Salt Lake City; and a brother, Edmund Creighton and Jean King of Mesquite, Nevada. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edmond Rice and Coral Jane King; his first wife, Kathleen Okerlund King; a sister, Rowena Leatherwood and a brother, Emmett LeGrande “Buster” King. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 29, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. in the Teasdale Cultural Hall. Burial with military honors accorded by the Harold Brown American Legion Post #92 will be in the Teasdale Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
