Teryle Oscar Nielsen

July 18, 1954 — October 23, 2024

Mayfield, Utah - Teryle Oscar Nielsen, our cherished husband, father, grandfather, and brother passed away on October 23, 2024, at Gunnison Valley Hospital at the age of 70. 

Teryle was born on July 18, 1954, in Murray, Utah to Hugh and Lila Phillips Nielsen. he grew up in Centerfield, where he developed a lifelong passion for the outdoors, particularly through riding horses and participating in rodeos. He graduated from Gunnison High School in 1972, where he cultivated friendships and experiences that would shape his life. He married his sweetheart, Jean Lewis, on June 4, 1973. Together they raised two daughters: Kelli Jo and Lori Ann.

Teryle was a cowboy and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was known for his adventurous spirit, enjoying hobbies that included shooting, hiking, and spending time in the mountains, all of which brought him immense joy and a connection to nature. He loved his family, including his sweet daughters with whom he is now reunited.

Teryle is survived by his beloved wife Jean, who was by his side throughout their journey together. He is also survived by his son-in-law Mark Lauritzen and his granddaughter Vickie Lauritzen, both of Mayfield; siblings: Duane Nielsen of California, Darla Kimball of Parowan, Tammy Nielsen of Centerfield, Cory Nielsen of Kaysville, and Wendy Phillips of Gunnison, as well as his step-father Glen Phillips of Monroe.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his beautiful daughters.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the EMTs and the staff at Gunnison Valley Hospital for their support of Teryle during the final moments of his life.

Graveside services will be held at 12 Noon on Monday, October 28, 2024, in the Mayfield Cemetery.

Services are under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Homes of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
