Thayne H. Judd

December 5, 1939 — October 22, 2015

Glenwood, Utah - Col. Thayne Hansen Judd, USAF (Ret.), noble servant of God, family and country, quietly left this life in the early morning hours of October 22, 2015, after a valiant battle with cancer. Thayne was born December 5, 1939, in Kanab, Utah, a son of George Elmer and Elva Matilda Hansen Judd. He graduated from Kanab High School, having served as Student Body President and excelling in athletics. He graduated with honors from College of Southern Utah and Utah State University in Civil Engineering and obtained a Master’s degree at the University of Colorado. He married Doris Joan Okerlund, September 10, 1960, in the Manti LDS Temple. They are the parents of three children: Julie Anne (Mark Gillman), Gary Thayne (Julene), and Scott Okerlund (Emily), and the grandparents of 15 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Thayne served in the U.S. Air Force for 29 years, always receiving the admiration and respect of those with whom he served throughout the world. Upon retirement, Thayne and Doris served two missions—one at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, where they ministered to the soldiers there, and the other at the John Johnson home in Hiram, Ohio. Their example, coupled with countless harvests of “mission hay,” have created a legacy of service. His wife, children and grandchildren adored him. He made their spiritual and temporal wellbeing a primary aim, and they received his teaching with joy. His engineering education and his work ethic enabled him to create a perfect haven in Glenwood, where family came often to work and play together. Thayne has served as a branch president, Bishop, Richfield Utah Stake Patriarch, and at the time of his death was serving as a sealer in the Manti LDS Temple. He will be dearly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his brother, Harl (Anne) Judd, and his sister, Shirlyn Frost. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 27, at 11:00 am, in the Glenwood LDS Ward Chapel, 225 E Center, Glenwood, Utah. Friends and family may visit Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00pm at the Springer Turner Funeral Home, 260 N 400 W, Richfield, or Tuesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30am, at the Glenwood Ward Chapel.
