Troy D. Black

Aurora/ Moab, Utah - Troy Dix Black, age 78, of Aurora, died February 2, 2006 in Richfield, Utah. He was born October 6, 1927 in McPhee, Colorado, a son of David John and Ellie Elizabeth Billingsley Black. He married LaDean Ellis, May 23, 1948 in Moab, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple June 12, 1965. Troy graduated from San Juan High School and attended Brigham Young University. He served twice in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict for 3 ½ years. He was very active in the LDS Church, where he worked as a Scout Leader and he was a High Priest. Troy was a Journeyman Plumber and he worked for Moab City as a Road Supervisor, for the US Park Service and as a heavy equipment operator. He served as Fire Chief for 16 years for the Moab Fire Department and as a volunteer fireman for 5 years. He liked hunting and outdoor activities. He enjoyed frequent visits with friends and family. He loved his grandchildren and he was a true, genuine friend to all he met. Troy is survived by his wife LaDean of Aurora; children: Troy Dean and Colleen Black of North Glen, Colorado; Allison and Spencer Snow of Aurora; 7 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John O. Black Jr. and a sister, Floy Black Jones. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 6, 2006 at 12 Noon in the Moab West 4th North LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call for viewing at the ward chapel in Moab Monday morning from 10:00 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Moab American Legion Post #54 and the Moab Fire Department will be in the Sunset Cemetery on Spanish Valley Drive in Moab under the direction of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
