Aurora, Utah - After 95 joyful years, our sweet mother, grandmother, and friend returned home to our Heavenly Father and Savior Saturday April 25, 2020 in Richfield, Utah. Valna Joy Mason Wasden was born on March 27, 1925 to Aldon Homer and Silvia Shaw Mason in Aurora, Utah. As a girl, she loved school and was an avid reader all her life. Education was very important to Valna. While she was a Senior at North Sevier High School, she met a Scipio boy named Thad Richard Wasden. They were married in the Manti Temple on March 1, 1943. She then returned to school and graduated 3 months later with the class of 1943. She spent her life loving and working beside Thad until his passing on January 17, 2008. Born, reared, and then raising her own family, Aurora truly was her hometown. She is a stalwart member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She showed her devotion and love for the Savior in the many callings she held throughout her life including a Stake Primary President and Stake Relief Society President. When asked about her testimony she always replied, “I know the church is true. I've always known it's true and I've never doubted.” Valna loved gardening and especially loved growing flowers. She also sung in a double trio group and had the nickname of the 'Singing Nightingale'. Another favorite pastime she had was quilting. She served many years at the North Sevier Senior Citizens Center quilting and tying beautiful quilts for the community. She was always putting others before herself. Valna loved to cook and was always asking and ready to fix something if you were hungry or even if you weren't. She always had a cake or goodies to share with anyone who came to visit. Valna always wanted to be a mother. Even as a little girl, she didn't think about being anything else. Grandma always had children around her or on her lap. When asked what the best part about life is and what makes her happiest she said, “Family... I think that's the best. And the gospel is very important... I'm very grateful that I've lived a good life and that the gospel has been a part of it.” She is survived by her children Rosalie Colby, Aurora; Richard (Sharee) Wasden, Aurora; Tammy (Steve) Tatum, Green River, WY; her son-in-law, Dell Allred, Salina; 15 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thad; Homer and Hilmer Mason (brothers); Virginia Crane (sister); Patricia Allred (daughter); Michel Colby (son-in-law); Broc Tatum (grandson); Canyon Hunt and Quinn Wasden (great-grandson's); Grace and Lilly Wasden (great-granddaughters). Private family graveside services will be held on Friday, May 1, 2020 in the Aurora City Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
