Vance Spencer

Centerfield, Utah - Vance J. Spencer, 82, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2019 in Centerfield, Utah. He was born December 13. 1937, the seventh of twelve children born to Olive Jones and Karl Harris Spencer in Kanab, Utah. He grew up in Glendale Utah and attended Glendale Elementary School. He graduated from Valley High School as part of the Class of 1956. He was drafted to the U.S. Army and served in Fort Benning, Georgia from 1961 to 1963; he remained in the U.S. Army Reserves until 1967. Following his service, he returned to Salt Lake City to work for Gallagher Freightways as a dock hand and eventually started driving truck as a local hauler. Gallagher Freightways became Consolidated Freightways. In 1982 Vance moved to Salina, Utah to operate a satellite terminal for CF, eventually retiring after 48 years. Not one to stop working, Vance started working for his brother-in-law, Clark Lamb. In 2001, Vance married Linda Hunter Ewles on October 2 in Richfield. Vance loved spending time with his family. He loved camping, hunting, fishing, gardening, travelling and exploring. He was loved by everyone who knew him and was a dad to so many. He will be sorely missed. Vance is survived by his wife, Linda Spencer of Centerfield; daughters: Sindie (Scott) Kennedy, Missoula, Montana; Shawntell (Cory) Draper of Axtell, Utah; sons: Shon Spencer and Shain Spencer, both of South Jordan, Utah; and Scott (Arshelle) Spencer of Gunnison, Utah; step-daughter Laura (Fred) Veater of Salina, Utah; 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings: LaRue Sorenson, Hugh (Allie) Spencer, Dell (LuJean) Spencer, Leland (Mary) Spencer, and Lois (Sherril) Porter. Vance is preceded in death by his parents, Olive Jones Spencer and Karl Spencer; siblings: Stanley Spencer, Mont Spencer, Harris “Jiggs” Spencer, Glendon Spencer, Florene Lamb and Rodney Spencer, brothers-in-law: Clark Lamb and LaDru Sorenson; nephews: Boyd Lamb and Ryan Spencer. Graveside services with military honors accorded by the Orderville American Legion Post #120 and the Utah Honor Guard will be Saturday, December 28, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. in the Glendale, Utah Cemetery. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home, 150 East Main Street in Salina, Friday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or at the Glendale LDS Ward Chapel in Glendale, Saturday morning from 11:00 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Glendale Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
