Vane O. Campbell

February 1, 1950 — April 29, 2023

Richfield, Utah - Vane Orlan Campbell, age 73, of Richfield, returned home to his Heavenly Father on April 29, 2023, in Centerfield, Utah, due to complications of Covid 19. Vane was born February 1, 1950, in Panguitch, Utah as the oldest child to Vane L. and Joann Reese Campbell.

Vane grew up in Alton, Utah. As a youth he went to a 2 room schoolhouse where he played on a merry-go-round and slide that his children one day would play on as well. This was also the school which he told his kids he had to walk in the snow uphill both ways. While Vane lived in Alton the town was small enough to call everyone a friend and it be literal. He had great memories of swimming in the reservoir and riding bikes. In the summer his dad had chores to keep Vane and his siblings busy. They worked together to finish the basement of their house, dug a potato cellar, and rocked it up and hauled rock to build the chimney and foundation of their house creating what generations of Campbells would picture when they thought of family, love, and home.

Vane is a proud member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and at 19 served a mission in the Northwestern States. After his mission he went to BYU where he would meet the love of his life Jeannette Higgs whom he married in the St.  George LDS Temple on February 1, 1974. Vane earned a Masters in Range Science and a Master’s in Public Administration. With his work, Vane and Jeannette moved from Provo, Utah to Pampa, Texas, Worland, Wyoming and Roosevelt, Utah and along the way welcoming 5 sons and 2 daughters. The Campbells moved to Richfield in 1996. Vane worked for NCRS for over 30 years and was well respected by all his colleagues.

Vane is an Eagle Scout and the father to five Eagle Scouts. Vane was very interested in genealogy and started indexing almost from the time it was available to do so at home, and after he retired, that was his primary activity during the days. His life goals were to be a successful husband and father. He loved his family immensely. His favorite place to be was at home where he enjoyed looking out the window. He loved the desert, mountains and nature in its variety and the times he was able to enjoy being amongst them.

Vane is survived by his wife, Jeannette of Richfield, Utah; his children Jeff (Saralyn) Campbell of Pasco, Washington; Laura (Kelly) Whiting Magna, Utah; Brent (Emily) Campbell Richfield, Utah; David Campbell Las Vegas Nevada; Jared Campbell Dayton, Idaho; Michael (Brittany) Campbell American Fork, Utah; Elysa (Jesse) Smith Garland, Utah; 19 grandchildren; his mother, Joann Campbell of Parowan, Utah; and siblings, Leo (JoAnn) Campbell Delta, Utah; Janet (Louis) Amodt Bountiful, Utah; Renee (Gary) Overson Parowan, Utah; Victor (Valoy) Campbell Mesquite, Nevada; and Dane (Susan) Campbell of Japan.
