Vaneda Morley Bird

Vaneda Morley Bird Salina, Utah - The heavens lit up when our dear, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend went home to the open arms of her Heavenly Father. Vaneda Martin Morley Bird, age 96, died December 1, 2003 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born October 6, 1907 in Salina, a daughter of Alfred and Minnie Shepherd Martin. She married Thomas J. Morley, March 9, 1929 in Ogden, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple, July 19, 1944. He died March 24, 1967. She married Rapley Bird, November 20, 1971 in Salina. He died February 4, 1993. Vaneda graduated from North Sevier High School, Class of 1925. She graduated from Snow College with a degree in Education and was a pioneer in teaching Phonics and also held special summer classes. She was an active member of the LDS Church, where she served as Relief Society President three different times. She and her husband, Rapley, served a Temple Mission at the Manti Temple. Vaneda was a member of the Lady Lions Club and the J.C. Ettes. In the 50's while in the Lady Lions, she assisted her husband in his efforts of getting seeing eye dogs as their national project. Vaneda hand quilted, crocheted and embroidered many beautiful quilts, hankies, pillow cases, afagan, etc and gave each of her grandchildren all of these and a baby quilt to their first born great-great-grandchildren. Vaneda is survived by her children: Iris Arellano of North Salt Lake; Neal J. and Lavona Morley of Salt Lake City; Deanna and Bruce Davidson of Logan; Tamra and Blair Fisher of Smithfield; 19 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; sisters: Emma Adams of Wendell, ID; Isabell Sorensen of Mapleton; Nona Vee Payne of Warden, WA. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Edward, Rae, Jay and Allen Martin. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 6, 2003 at 12 Noon in the Salina 2nd LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home in Salina, Friday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. and again Saturday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Salina Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
