Salina, Utah - Vaunda Mae Hampton Colby, age 86, our angel mother was called to her Heavenly home on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 10, 2015. She passed away peacefully in Gunnison, Utah, surrounded by loving family. Vaunda is now rejoicing in being reunited with her eternal sweetheart, Gerald, who preceded her in death. She also enjoys a sweet reunion with her mother and father and family members who surely greeted her for a blessed Mother’s Day reunion. Vaunda was born December 7, 1928 in Sevier, Sevier County, Utah to Charles and Una C. Dorius Hampton. She married Gerald Charles Colby, January 11, 1964. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple January 5, 1980. He died October 9, 1994. To know Vaunda was to know love. Her sense of care and concern for others will be greatly missed. She served others tirelessly her entire life. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was so proud of her family. Vaunda enjoyed attending family reunions, weddings, and get-togethers of any kind with friends and family. Her love for her immediate and extended family members was strong. She leaves a legacy of strength, courage and love. Vaunda particularly enjoyed gardening, family history work, crocheting, entertaining, and cheering for the Utah Jazz. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and fulfilled numerous callings with devotion and faithful obedience. Vaunda is survived by her children, Karen (Collin) Hales, Richfield; Michel (Rosalie) Colby, Aurora; Steve (Jana) Colby, Salina; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Luella Kralka, Novato, CA; Merrill Hampton, Redmond, UT; Anna Hales, Redmond, UT; Della Rae Peterson, Sandy, UT; Leila Crane, Salina, UT. Preceded in death by a foster daughter, Saraphina Lily; her siblings: Ruby Hampton, Merle Hampton Roberts, and Nelda Hampton Behunin; and her deceased in-laws: Burnell Miner, June Monroe, Joseph Darwin Colby, Vee Colby, Donald Colby, Murvin Colby, Therresa Rasmussen Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 16, at 12:00 Noon, in the Salina 2nd LDS Ward Chapel, 85 South 100 East in Salina. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home in Salina, Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m., or Saturday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Salina Eastside Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
