Verda Ernstsen Brinkerhoff

Bicknell, Utah - Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Verda Ernstsen Brinkerhoff, age 91, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 9, 2004 at her daughter’s home in West Valley City of causes incident to age. Verda was born September 4, 1913 in Fremont, Utah, to Ove and Mary Violet Ernstsen. She was the sixth of eleven children and spent most of her childhood growing up in Fremont and Murray, Utah. At the age of 17, Verda moved to Wayne County and on November 13, 1930 she married Otto Hatch Brinkerhoff. They made their home in Bicknell, Utah and raised three daughters. They were married for 65 years until Otto’s death, April 6, 1996. Verda was an active member in the LDS Church, serving in many capacities. She was a member of the DUP Camp Thurber for 65 years and was in the Bicknell Literary Club. She loved crocheting, quilting, knitting, sewing, gardening, cooking and spending time with her family. Verda owned and operated Verda’s Café in Bicknell for 15 years. She also worked for the Dixie National Forest Service for 7 years. Verda is survived by her three daughters: Iris and Bert McDonald of Bicknell; Sharon and Bob Cowley of Venice; Barbara and Dwight Taylor of West Valley City; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sister: Norma and Duane Turner of Salina. She was preceded in death by her husband; an infant daughter, Onda Vee; a granddaughter, Julie Taylor Mamales; 2 brothers and 7 sisters: Clifton Ernstsen, Duane Ernstsen, Arthella Pate, Lola Mae Hadfield, Lucille Rushton, Luella Bennett, Veta Beutler, Naoma Berry and Juanita Lee. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 15, 2004 at 1:00 P.M. in the Thurber LDS Ward Chapel in Bicknell, where friends may call for viewing Monday morning from 11:00 to12:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Bicknell Cemetery under the direction of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
