September 30, 1929 — July 18, 2011

Axtell, Utah - Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, VerDell Nielsen Johnson, age 81, died July 18, 2011 at her home in Axtell. She was born September 30, 1929 in Axtell, a daughter of William Hans and Pearl Elmina Spainhower Nielsen. She graduated from Gunnison Valley High School. VerDell married Weldon D. Johnson, February 17, 1948 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was a member of the LDS Church and she enjoyed her monthly luncheons with the Relief Society Sisters. Our mother was deeply loved by many and lived a full and honorable life, giving so much of herself to others, unselfishly. She has left behind as her legacy, life lessons in compassion, strong work ethics and values, that her children and grandchildren will carry with them, throughout their lives. We thank you for that, Mom. She will be deeply missed and remembered for her loving nature towards everyone who knew her. VerDell is survived by her beloved husband, Weldon, of Axtell; her children: Diane Chevier of Salt Lake City; Nadine Ehardt of Keystone, South Dakota; Claudia Nielson of Axtell; Sherrie LaFurge of Ridgefield, Washington; Tonya Busker of Lehi; Jana Shields of St. George; Layne Johnson of Hurricane; 21 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Beryl Ball of Salina. She was preceded in death by a son and a daughter, Gary Johnson and Lynette McIntosh; also four brothers and four sisters. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 22, 2011 at 12 Noon in the Axtell LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may call for viewing Friday morning from 10:00 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Centerfield City Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
