Verdell Nielsen

Christenburg, Utah - Newell Verdell Nielsen, age 78, beloved husband, father and friend, passed away December 4, 2005 in Gunnison, Utah. He was born August 30, 1927 in Clarion, Utah, a son of Niels Peter and Hulda Jensen Nielsen. Verdell married the girl he loved, Joyce Christensen, January 25, 1945 in Redmond, Utah. He spent two years in the US Navy in the Pacific front during World War II and then returned home to the farm where he spent his career. Verdell spent many hours with neighbors and friends helping with crops and animals. He will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce, of Christenburg; daughter, Kamille Nielsen of Farmington; daughter-in-law, Paula K. Nielsen of Bluffdale; grandsons: Shane and Jennifer Nielsen of Salt Lake City; Chris and Jill Nielsen of Cedar City; Jessie Nielsen, serving an LDS Mission in the Philippines. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Lee V. Nielsen and a grandson, Jaren Rusty Nielsen. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 8, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. in the Mayfield LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may call for viewing Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. and again Thursday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Centerfield American Legion Post will be in the Centerfield Cemetery under the direction of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Primary Children’s Hospital in Verdell’s name.
