Verla Taylor Nielsen

July 17, 1922 — June 19, 2014

Fremont, Utah - Our kind and beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Verla Mae Edwards Taylor Nielsen, age 91, passed away June 19, 2014 in Loa, Utah, of complications from a fall. She was born July 17, 1922 in Loa, a daughter of Russell Sylvester and Ida Mae Farnsworth Edwards. She graduated from North Sevier High School, Class of 1940. She married Evan Merild Taylor, October 8, 1944 in Reno, Nevada. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple. Evan died July 23, 1985. She married Phill Nielsen, January 5, 1989 in Yuma, Arizona. He died December 1, 2006. Verla was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in various callings and she enjoyed many trips to the Manti Temple with her friends. She was a member of the Camp Geyser DUP. Verla spent many days living in a sheep camp, where she enjoyed helping herd sheep and cattle in the desert and on the mountain. She became famous for her sourdough biscuits. They were the best! She enjoyed visiting with her children, grandchildren and her many faithful friends who came to visit with her regularly. Verla is survived by her children: Evelyn and Clenn Okerlund of Lyman; Ted and Peggy Taylor of Loa; Lois (Gary, deceased) Cromen of Auburn, California; step-children: Jackie and Mike Terrell of West Valley City; Denny and Shauna Nielsen of Salina; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Utahna (William, deceased) Quigley of Salt Lake City and a sister-in-law: Barbara Farnsworth of Brigham City. She was preceded in death by her parents; both of her husbands; a daughter, Elaine Taylor; two grandsons: Jay R. Taylor and Ben Croman; and two brothers: Don and Lucille Edwards; Boyd Farnsworth. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. in the Fremont LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may call for viewing Monday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or Tuesday morning from 11:00 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Fremont Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
