Verle P. Peterson

December 28, 1914 — October 10, 2010

Salina, Utah - Verle Evelyn Poulson Burgess Peterson was born December 28, 1914 in Redmond, Utah, a daughter of Albert N. and Millre Anderson Poulson. She died October 10, 2010 in Richfield, Utah. For those wonderful 95 years, she brought joy, friendship and love to all around her. Her public school education was in Redmond and Salina. She received a Three Year Normal Degree from Brigham Young University; she graduated from Utah State with a BS Degree in Curriculum and Education and thereafter attended Columbia University in New York, for post graduate work, which was an amazing accomplishment for anyone, especially a woman, at that time. She married Wayne A. Peterson, October 2, 1946 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Verle taught school in Richfield and Salina and her pupils were her children. During the war, she as an instructor at the Business College in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Upon returning to Utah, she became the Elementary School Supervisor in Sevier County. In January, 1949, she and Wayne, opened the Peterson’s Smart Shop in Salina and retired from there, 25 years later. She loved learning, life and people. Verle was an active member of the LDS Church, teaching and serving faithfully in Primary, Sunday School and Relief Society for many years. She enjoyed sports— hunting, fishing and golf. She LOVED to cook and shared her goodies with many. Verle dearly loved her family and Wayne’s family and many friends, and expressed her love and thoughts in her poetry and writing. She is survived by her husband, Wayne and a brother, Brice Poulson. A sister Venna, and a brother, Bill, as well as her first husband Robert Burgess, who was killed in action over Germany, preceded her in death. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, October 14, 2010 at 12 Noon in the Salina 2nd LDS Ward Chapel, 85 South 100 East in Salina. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home, 150 East Main Street, in Salina, Thursday morning from 10:00 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Richfield City Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the LDS Church Perpetual Education Fund, in care of Bishop Steven Roberts, Salina 2nd Ward Bishop, P.O. Box 302, Salina, Utah 84654.
