Vern S. Mott

February 6, 1920 — February 11, 2004

Vern S. Mott Loa, Utah - Vern Smith Mott, age 84, passed away Feb. 11, 2004 in Richfield, Utah. He was born Feb. 6, 1920 in Torrey, Utah, a son of Jeremiah “Jed” and Catrine Elisa Smith Mott. He married Agnes Charlotte McMahan, May 29, 1943 in Salt Lake City. She preceded him in death. He married Marjorie Brown Erickson, September 3, 1983 in Loa, Utah. Vern served in the US Army from May 1941 to Feb. 1946. He spent 13 months in Germany with the 696th Armored Field Artillery, attached to the 2nd Armored Division, working with M7 Tanks. Vern loved horses, camping and spending time with his family and friends. Vern was a member of the Salt Lake Sheriff’s Posse for over 50 years. Although Vern did not have children of his own, he was sincerely loved and adopted by Marjorie’s family. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie, of Loa; children: Merlin and Kathy Erickson, Loa; Kay and June Erickson, Glenwood; 9 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers and 3 sisters: Clarence Mott, Loren Mott, Orval Mott, Veral D. Mott, Nelda Cook, Julia Hickman and Adelia Pierce. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 16, 2004 at 1:00 P.M. in the Loa LDS Stake Center. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home in Richfield, Sunday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. and at the Stake Center in Loa, Monday from 11:00 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Harold Brown American Legion Post #92 will be in the Loa Cemetery under the direction of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
