They loved to go on camping and fishing trips together and enjoyed all that California had to offer. Vila Dean retired from the City of Whittier before moving back to Utah where she and Johnnie owned and operated the Safari Motel and Restaurant with their two children, Judi and Jeff. Vila Dean appreciated and enjoyed all of the employees who through the years made the Safari Motel and Restaurant such a success. Vila Dean enjoyed immensely spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, with whom she shared many happy days. She and her partner, Tom, shared a love of fishing in Utah's Lakes and enjoyed their many trips to Mesquite. Vila Dean told her family many times that she had a wonderful, happy life and that she wouldn’t have changed any part of it. She enjoyed her family and had the life she loved.
