Sigurd, Utah - Our kind and beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, Vilo James Allen, age 92, of Sigurd, passed away peacefully at his home in Sigurd on September 6, 2016, just six months after his beloved wife, LaRae. He was born January 23, 1924 in Glendale, Utah, a son of Jonathan Ernest and Della Fay Harris Allen. Vilo served his country during World War II in the United States Army. He married the love of his life, LaRae Neilson, October 14, 1952 in Elko, Nevada. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple, October 14, 1961. LaRae died March 23, 2016. Vilo was an active member of the LDS Church, serving for many years as an assistant ward clerk in the Sigurd Ward. He also served as the Sigurd Town Water Master, on the Sigurd Town Board and as the Sigurd Cemetery Sextant. He loved to garden and could often be seen out in the yard, taking care of his garden and yards. He loved his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. They were the light of his life and they will miss their Grandpa. Vilo is survived by his children: James Mont Allen, Floyd Vilo Allen, Julie Faye Wilson and Melanie Dawn Washburn, all of Sigurd; 25 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Luella Gallegos of Richfield. He is preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Johnston; a granddaughter: Sherry Ann Allen; his parents, Jonathan Ernest and Della Fay Allen; his wife, LaRae; brothers and sister: Eldon Allen, Ray Allen and Karma Barney. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 12, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. in the Sigurd LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may visit with the family Sunday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. at the Springer Turner Funeral Home in Richfield, or at the Ward Chapel in Sigurd Monday morning from 11:30 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the VFW Sevier Post #5050 and the Utah Honor Guard will be in the Sigurd Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
