LOA — Vorris Neal Stevens, age 76, died peacefully Monday, Aug. 6, 2018 in Centerfield. He suffered from Alzheimer’s, but is now freed from his suffering and back in the arms of his beloved wife, Marie. He was born to Reed Leroy and Melba Shaw Stevens June 29, 1942, in Aurora. He married his wife, Lucy Marie Durfey Nov. 29, 1963, in Bicknell. They were later sealed for time and eternity in the St. George, Utah temple March 23, 1985. She died July 5, 2017. They welcomed three children into their family — Joan and Reed, as well as their baby Kelly Kay Stevens, who was stillborn. They moved from Wayne County to Las Vegas for a few years and then relocated back to Loa, where they lived the remainder of their life together. They built a business that served their community and the state of Utah. Vorris was a butcher for 40 years in their shop “Stevens Locker.” Vorris served in many volunteer roles in his community. He was an EMT, a reserve officer and a member of the community search and rescue team for many years. He also served faithfully in his church as a primary teacher and a Sunday school teacher. He and his late wife, Marie, served a mission together in Kirtand, Ohio from 2007-08. Vorris had a pleasant and quiet personality. He and his dear wife complemented each other so beautifully. He was always seen by her side, and it is no surprise that his life on earth ended just over a year after hers. Vorris loved time with family including playing games, 4-wheeling, spending time at the family cabin and hunting. He is survived by his children, Joan (Dave) Brinkerhoff, Bicknell; and Reed (Cindy) Stevens, Loa; grandchildren, Weston (Rachel) Brinkerhoff, Spring Hill, Tennessee; Melissa (Taylor) Mellor, Fayette; Kellie (Lane) Gardner, Cleveland, Utah; Natasha (Devin) Monroe, Cedar City; and Logan Stevens, Loa; great-grandchildren, Ivy and Nash Brinkerhoff, Olivia and Tristan Mellor, AdaLynn and Jentry Gardner. He is preceded in death by his wife, Marie Stevens; daughter, Kelley Stevens; parents, Melba and Reed Stevens; siblings: Clifford Taylor, Carlos Taylor, Oral Taylor, Arden Stevens; Leora Stenberg, and Arlene Langford. Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. in the Loa LDS Stake Center, where friends may call for viewing Tuesday morning from 10:00 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Bicknell Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
