Wallace S. Manwill

December 13, 1919 — January 5, 2008

Koosharem/St. George - Wallace S. Manwill passed away January 5, 2008, in St. George, Utah at the age of 88. He was born December 13, 1919 in Koosharem, Utah, a son of Franklin Monroe and Mary Ann Sorenson Manwill. He was married to Elaine Thorne on March 22, 1940. Their children include Dean, RaeAnn and David. They were sealed as a family in the Los Angeles Temple, in 1960. Elaine passed away in 1987, and he then married Opal Winn for time in the Salt Lake Temple on July 2, 1988. He was an active member of the LDS Church. He graduated from Richfield High School in 1939 and then left for Los Angeles in search of work. Beginning in the shipyards he was soon drafted into the army in World War II. He was then sent overseas to the South Pacific stationed on the island of Okinawa when the war ended. He returned to Los Angeles and worked as a plumber until 1953. Soon after he branched out and started his own business, Manwill Plumbing and Heating. After a long a profitable career he retired in 1975. He and Elaine then moved back to Koosharem to begin retirement. His father was an old time cowboy who participated in the big cattle drives using his saddle as a pillow and carrying pearl handled six shooters. Wally’s father instilled a love of horses in all six of his sons. Wally was a cowboy at heart, and owned or rode horses until the time of his death. He was active with riding clubs throughout Southern California, and was a member of the Orange County Posse. He was dearly loved by all of his large and extended family. He is survived by his wife Opal, son David Manwill and daughter RaeAnn Beard (husband Clark). Step children include Dee Bangerter (wife Marry), Lois White, Ted Nelson (wife Sandy); 31 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren. Also a sister Libbie Brindley (husband Milton, deceased); brother: Marion Manwill (wife Violet), sister-in-laws, Betty and Wanda Manwill. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Elaine; son Dean; brothers Willis, Cyrus, Frank Jr., Don, sister Leda Keifer and step-son, Lee Bangerter. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 11, 2008 at 12 Noon in the Koosharem LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home in Richfield, Thursday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or at the ward chapel in Koosharem Friday morning from 10:00 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Harold Brown American Legion Post #92 will be in the Koosharem Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wells Fargo Bank in Richfield Utah to the Memorial Fund in the name of Wallace S. Manwill.
