Wayne B. Burr

Salina, Utah - Wayne B. Burr returned home to his Heavenly Father on the morning of April 26, 2014, in Richfield, Utah. A husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, Wayne devoted his life of service to family and neighbors for 85 years. He was born in Salina, Utah, on August 25, 1928, to Myron Beason and Olive Mickelsen Burr. After graduating from North Sevier High School, Wayne proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1948 to 1952 as part of the Navel Construction Force, better known as the Seabees. He enjoyed sharing tales of constructing causeways and pontoon docks in countries such as Morocco, Trinidad, and Nova Scotia. After his honorary discharge from the service, Wayne began his lifelong work in heavy construction. For over 30 years, he supervised many highway projects throughout Utah and surrounding states for L.A. Young Construction Co., where he developed lifelong friends. Wayne belonged to the Operating Engineers Local Union No. 3. He also worked for the LDS Church and the Salina Utah Stake for 17 years. Wayne married his eternal sweetheart Arda Lucille Johnson in the Manti Temple on April 17, 1953. He raised his family of four children, Kent, Craig, Carolyn, and Linda, who brought him joy throughout his life. He enjoyed spending time with his family in the mountains and deserts of Central Utah. He loved working in his yard, helping neighbors trim trees, walking in the foothills near his home, visiting his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and especially riding in the Gator with his son Kent. Wayne was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served in various callings including Bishop, counselor, high council member, and home teacher. Involved in many community projects, Wayne especially took pride in the beautification of the Salina City Cemeteries. He is survived by his wife, Arda; sons, Kent Wayne Burr of Salina and Craig (Jackie) Burr of Spanish Fork; daughters, Carolyn (Russel) Christensen of Richfield and Linda (Merrill) Hugentobler of Moab; siblings, Verna Dean Bigler, Elaine Burr, James G. (Ann) Burr and Brent (Janece) Burr. He leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Myron Jack Burr. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 2, at 11:00 a.m., in the Salina 2nd ward chapel, 85 South 100 East in Salina. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home, 150 East Main Street in Salina, Thursday, May 1, from 6 to 8 p.m., or Friday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the services. Interment with military honors accorded by the Salina American Legion Post #36 and the Utah Honor Guard will be in the Salina Eastside Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
