Wayne D. Muir

June 11, 1949 — June 5, 2023

Venice, Utah/Elko, Nevada – Our loving husband, father, grandfather. brother and uncle, Wayne David Muir, age 73, of Elko, Nevada and formerly of Venice, passed away June 5, 2023 in Ely, Nevada after a brave and valiant battle with colon cancer. He was born Jun 11, 1949, in Cedar City, a son of Leon David and Dora Hurdsman Muir. His early childhood years were spent in Venice and then his family moved to McGill, Nevada when Wayne was 10 years old. McGill became his hometown, and he loved his growing up years there, with it’s hunting, fishing and other outdoor activities close at hand, including the best outdoor swimming hole in the entire State of Nevada. Hunting each fall was a big part of his life and trapping in the winter was something he did as well, and he was proficient at both of these.

From a young age he was very mechanically inclined. He received awards in high school for his mechanic work. After graduation from White Pine High School in Ely, he went to college at Utah Tech College in Provo (now Utah Valley University), and graduated with a degree in Diesel Technology, going on to achieve a Journeyman level in that field. He could troubleshoot and fix just about anything.

Wayne met Jorja Lamphiear in Provo while at college and they were married September 6, 1969, in Hood River, Oregon, Jorja’s hometown. Their marriage was solemnized in the St. George LDS Temple March 10, 1979. To this union were born three children: David George, Emily Jean and Nancy Fay. The family went on some great adventures, camping and exploring Nevada and doing things together.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Jorja, of Elko; a daughter, Emily (Scott) Crofts of Osino, Nevada; three grandchildren: Elizabeth (Nathan) Dominguez; Katherine "Vivi" Hoover; and Sam Hoover all of Elko; siblings: Beverly Pond of Venice; Steven (Connie) Muir of Spring Creek, Nevada.

He is preceded in death by his son, David George Muir in 1993 and his daughter Nancy Fay Muir in 1995; his parents, Leon D. and Dora Muir; and a brother, Gene Muir.
