Hanksville, Utah - Our beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend, Wels Walter Mulford, age 79, passed away December 24, 2004 at his son’s home in Fruit Heights, Utah. He was born on July 18, 1925 in Torrey, Utah, a son of James Walter and Cornelia Dorothy "Dolly" Heaps Mulford. He married Wynona Nye Mecham, April 3, 1954 in Richfield, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple. She died December 2, 2003. Dad loved the outdoors, fishing, rock hunting and living in Wayne County. He took pride in working hard to provide for his family. He was known for his wit, honesty and his devotion to his wife, Wynona. He encouraged his children to continue their education and work hard in all they set out to accomplish. He served in the Navy as a gunners mate on the Aircraft Carrier, The USS Rudyerd Bay, during World War II. He was a member of the Wayne School Board for a number of years. In the later years of his life, he served in various Church callings for the LDS Church. Wels suffered many physical ailments during the later years of his life, but he endured well. He is survived by his children: Burdell and Jayne Mulford of Fruit Heights; Carol and Don Albrecht of Bryan, Texas; Mark (Deceased) and Tamara Mulford of Santa Clara; Deborah and Randy Crowther of Hyde Park; 14 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sister and brother: Lloyd (Deceased) and Wyla Rymer of American Fork; Jim and Julie Mulford of West Valley City. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wynona; his son, Mark; a brother, Ward Mulford; and three sisters: Zelma, LaDellan and Martha Mulford. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 3, 2005 at 1:00 P.M. in the Hanksville LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home, 260 North 400 West, in Richfield, Sunday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. and at the ward chapel in Hanksville, Monday from 11:00 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Harold Brown American Legion Post #92 will be in the Hanksville Cemetery under the direction of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
