Redmond, Utah - Our dear old dad left us on Thursday, October 12th at 11:45 PM. Dad was born August 4th 1928 to Vernon and Selda Payne. He was the fourth of four children. He would tell his family stories about his Huck Finn childhood, breaking and riding horses, swimming and ice-skating on Redmond Lake, hunting deer up Willow Creek Canyon, and hunting pheasants on horseback near his beloved town of Redmond, Utah. Dad served in the military shortly after World War II. When he returned home Dad met his beautiful and loving wife Betty Jo Sorenson at a dance at the Red Monto on Redmond Lake. They were later married February 18th 1950. Mom and Dad raised six kids. His boys would jokingly say dad had four boys but his horse Henry was his favorite son because Henry was the only one that would listen to him. . Dad always looked forward to the Fall so he could go hunting with his friends and family. Dad picked up Golf at the age of 60 and golfed nearly every day he could. Mom and Dad loved to travel. After their retirement they spent their winters in the Palm Springs area, and they went on multiple cruises. They loved British Columbia. He adored his grandkids and loved to bring them along on his adventures every chance he got. He was also a father figure to several other friends and extended family. Dad was a veteran of the US Army, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and a descendant of Danish Pioneers. He was a member of the Teamsters union local 222. He spent most of his career as a construction supervisor. He was the Quintessential Cowboy, he was hard-edged, loud, unbending, and always right! He hunted, he fished, he traveled, he rode horses and he golfed. He was a great storyteller who remembered everyone’s name and stories from his home town of Redmond, Utah. HE DID IT HIS WAY!
