Will Ackelbein

January 18, 1916 — February 9, 2007

Gunnison, Utah - Wilbert Otto (Will) Ackelbein, age 91, died February 9, 2007 at his home in Gunnison. He was born January 18, 1916 in Hillside, Colorado, a son of Otto and Emma Henges Ackelbein. He married Emma Jane Gengler, February 4, 1938 in Richmond, California. She died May 6, 2005. Will served in the United States Army during World War II. He served with 1777th Engineer Construction Battalion and with the 1731st Engineer Utility Detachment, stationed in Fukuoka, Honshu Island, Japan. Will enjoyed spending time with his family. He always loved spring time and gardening. He is survived by a sister-in-law: Ellen Treloar of Gunnison; niece and nephews: Shelley Roberts, Fred L. Harris and Steve Treloar, all of Gunnison; great-nieces and great-nephews: Tina Clark of Centerfield, L. Fred Harris of Gunnison, Kim Bennett of Payson, Billy Harris of Syracuse, Mike Hernandez of Salina, Michelle Shaw, Heather Christensen and Travis Roberts, all of Gunnison; Sammy Roberts and also many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews living in California. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, a brother-in-law: Bill Treloar; sister-in-law: Pearl Brown; brother-in-law: Wilson Gengler and a niece, Sharon Harris. Grave side services will be held Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at 12 Noon in the Gunnison City Cemetery. Friends may call for viewing at the Gunnison LDS Stake Center, Tuesday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Gunnison American Legion Post #104 will be in the Gunnison City Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Gunnison Valley Hospice Program in memory of Will Ackelbein.
