William Maxwell Barney

November 3, 1910 — June 21, 2003

Bill Barney Richfield, Utah - Our beloved brother and uncle, William “Bill” Maxwell Barney, age 92, passed away on June 21, 2003 in Cedar City, Utah. He was born November 3, 1910 in Monroe, Utah, a son of Charles Albert and Charlotte LeMoine Barney. He joined the US Army, November 21, 1933 and was in the 9th Field Artillery Unit. He married Bernice Sheppard, October 18, 1943 in Seattle, Washington. She preceded him in death, January 20, 1978. Bill was a member of the Teamsters Union and worked and retired as a saleman for a Beer Brewery in Seattle, WA. After Bernice died, Bill moved to Richfield in 1978. He was a member of the LDS Church. Bill is survived by one sister: Lottie Morrill and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlotte and Charles; his wife, Bernice; seven brothers and four sisters: Walter James "Walt" Barney, Maude Winget, Albert Barney, Mable Barney, Nellie "Nell" Asay, LaFell Barney, LaMoine Barney, Edward "Ed" Barney, Dorus Barney, Archie Barney and Georgia Barney. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 26, 2003 at 12 Noon in the Springer Turner Funeral Home Chapel, 260 North 400 West in Richfield, where friends may call for viewing Thursday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Monroe American Legion Post #37 will be in the Monroe City Cemetery under the direction of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
