LaCrescenta, California/Axtell, Utah - It is with great sadness and love that we announce the death of Bill Glenn of La Crescenta, CA. He passed from this life on October 1, 2010. We brought him home for his last hours so he could be with his family. Home and family were very important to Bill. He enjoyed all family reunions and get-togethers. Bill was born July 28, 1920 in Moscow, Idaho, a son of David Stanhope and Mini Buchanan Glenn. He moved to California in 1924. He loved life and was an adventurous man, always ready to try new things. Bill graduated from John Marshall High School in Los Angeles in 1940 and immediately married the love of his life, Laura Duffin of Axtell, Utah. Laura attended John Marshall during her senior year of high school. Bill and Laura together shared 70 years of marriage and lots of good times. Bill joined the US Army in 1944 and served in the South Pacific Theatre. He was on the island of Tinian when the Enola Gay flew off from there to drop the atomic bomb on Japan. Soon after, he was discharged from the army and went home to Laura and their three children. Bill became a member of the Los Angeles Fire Department in July of 1947. He retired in 1975 after 28 years of service. Together with Laura and their three children, they enjoyed many years of camping in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, fishing, water skiing and boating. Bill also enjoyed gardening, building things of wood and being at home. He and Laura later joined a rock club, becoming avid “rock hounds”. They collected beautiful stones from the desert from which Bill created many bookends, cloks, bolo ties and various pieces of art. Bill also managed to travel to far away places such as China, Hawaii, Alaska and Canada. On July 28 of this year, he reached 90 years of age and celebrated is birthday and 70 years of marriage to Laura, they were married on his 20th birthday, July 28, 1940. His oldest daughter, Julie, hosted a celebration party attended by his three children, 15 grandchildren and their families, including 34 great-grandchildren and many other family members. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Laura of La Cresenta, California; their three children: Julie Molen of Auburn, Washington; Warren Glenn of Saugus, California; and Louise Glenn of Chewelah, Washington, in addition to his 15 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. Bill was much loved and admired, a good friend to many. Because he lived here on earth, he left the world a better place. We will miss and will always love him.
