Willis B Hales

Redmond, Utah - Our kind and beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather, Willis B. Hales, age 94, of Redmond, passed away January 9, 2017 in Gunnison, Utah. He was born January 20, 1922 in Redmond, a son of John Smith and Mary Christine Rebecca Mickelsen Hales. He graduated from North Sevier High School, Class of 1940. He served his country in the US Army during World War II. He was a member of the 88th Infantry Division in Italy. Willis married the love of his life, Anna Fae Hampton, April 20, 1949 in the Manti LDS Temple. He was a very active member of the LDS Church, serving in the Redmond Ward Bishopric, High Priest Group Leader, Manti Temple Ordinance Worker and Family History Specialist. Willis served as Commander of the Redmond American Legion Post and was instrumental in building the Veteran's Memorial in Redmond. He also served on the Redmond Town Board. He enjoyed gardening, reading, square dancing, visiting with people, watching Jazz games and going to as many of the grandchildren's activities as they could. Willis will be greatly missed. He is survived by his loving wife, Anna, of Redmond; children: Leslie and Ed Christensen of Richfield; Kerry and Starla Hales of Farmington, New Mexico; Dave and Sharron Hales of Aztec, New Mexico; Wayne Hales of Pristina, Kosovo; Kendall and Brenda Hales of Aurora; Christine and Allan Laws of Redmond; 25 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings: John Henry Hales, Kenneth Hales, Calvin Hales, Marwood Hales, Hal Hales, Vontess Jensen, Geneva Hales, Helen Hales and Beth Hales. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 12 Noon in the Redmond 2nd LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may call for viewing Friday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or Saturday morning from 10:00 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Redmond American Legion Post #118 and the Utah Honor Guard will be in the Redmond Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
