Wilmoth D. Nielson

February 25, 1921 — July 18, 2016

Salina, Utah - Our beloved Wilmoth Deaton Nielson "Grandma Willie" passed away peacefully on July 18, 2016 at her home in Salina at the age of 95. She was born February 25, 1921 in Salina, a daughter of John W. and Jennette Harding Deaton. She graduated from North Sevier High School, Class of 1939. She married Arlon Junius Nielson, July 28, 1941 in Ely, Nevada. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple, June 29, 1965. Arlon died July 7, 2007. Wilmoth was an active member of the LDS Church, serving as a Visiting Teacher and she taught Primary for many years. Wilmoth was a wonderful lady that left an imprint on so many people. If it wasn't for her cooking, canning and crocheting, it was for her gardening and yard work. She always had a perfect yard and never had anything out of place. You could never put a fast song on the radio without her getting up to dance. She was a wonderful piano player and learned to play by ear. She was famous for her hot cakes, chocolate cake and her potato salad. She loved her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids dearly and would not take no for an answer when it came to offering ice cream. Although she was 95, she took care of herself and was very active and independent and was a three-time cancer survivor. Her special great-grandson, Tucker, passed away three months ago and she was never the same. All she wanted was to be with him and her sweetheart of 66 years, Arlon, again. Grandma Willie, unfortunately, died of a broken heart. She is survived by her two daughters: Eloise Brewer of Annabella and Trudy Sorensen of Salina; 7 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister and brother: Leween Allred, Joe and Elaine Deaton, all of Salina. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arlon; her great-grandson, Tucker Sorensen; a sister, Vivian and Eldwin Meacham; and a brother-in-law: Burton Allred. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at 12 Noon in the Salina 2nd LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home in Salina, Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or Wednesday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Salina Eastside Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
