Wynona Mecham Mulford

March 29, 1923 — December 2, 2003

Wynona Mulford Hanksville, Utah - Wynona Nye Mecham Mulford, age 80, of Hanksville, passed away on December 2, 2003 at her daughter’s home in Hyde Park, Utah, after a valiant battle with cancer. She was born March 29, 1923 in Green River, Utah, a daughter of Dennis Burdell and Nellie McDougall Mecham. She always spoke fondly of her childhood. She admired her parents greatly and felt loved by them and each of her seven siblings. Wynona graduated from Wayne High School, Class of 1942. She served a mission for the LDS Church in California from Setpember 1946 to June 1948. In 1953 she worked as a Bench Chemist at White Canyon where she met Wels Walter Mulford. They were married April 3, 1954 in Richfield, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple. They had four children. After she was married, she lived at different times in Hanksville and Torrey. Wynona was a devoted member of the LDS Church and served in various callings throughout her life, including Relief Society President (three times), Primary President, Young Women’s President and in other endeavors. Wynona loved her family greatly and was a wonderful mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. She did many acts of service, small and great, throughout her life. Music was always an important part of Wynona’s life. She enjoyed singing and could play the piano by ear. Wynona was known for her delicious pies and rolls, long prayers and concern for making sure everyone had enough blankets to stay warm. She set an example of faith and commitment to all around her. She will be remembered and greatly missed by her husband, as well as many friends and family members. She is survived by her husband, Wels, of Hanksville; children, Carol and Don Albrecht of Bryan, TX; Burdell and Jayne Mulford of Fruit Heights; Mark (Deceased) and Tamara Mulford of Santa Clara; Deborah and Randy Crowther of Hyde Park; 14 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; brother, Clive Mecham of Wyoming. She was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers: Ida Weber, Beryl Okerlund, Leda Maxfield, Donna Whitby, Vell Mecham and Lloyd Mecham. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 6, 2003 at 1:00 P.M. in the Hanksville LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home in Richfield, Friday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. and at the ward chapel in Hanksville Saturday from 11:00 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Hanksville Cemetery under the direction of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
