Zane E. Hatch

Aurora, Utah - Our kind and loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, Zane Elmo Hatch, age 94, of Aurora, passed away October 11, 2018 in Centerfield. He was born December 5, 1923 in Aurora, a son of John Henry and Irma Durrett Johnson. He graduated from Richfield High School, Class of 1943. He served in the United States Air Force for 3 1/2 years during World War II, where he learned to be a barber. He attended Barber College and returned to Sevier County, where he cut hair for 78 years, retiring at the age of 91, being the oldest living barber in the entire USA. Zane married Arrawanna Barney March 16, 1945 in Richfield. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple November of 1945. They were later divorced. He married Thelma Nalder November 3, 1962 in Kaysville. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple May 8, 1982. She died December 15, 2009. Zane loved to hunt and fish. He and Thelma squared danced for many years and they also traveled to all 50 States with their good friends, Udell and Jean Johnson. When they left on an adventure, you never knew when they were going to come back home. Zane was also known to be an excellent artist, painting many oil paintings, which were proudly displayed in his home. He also loved to do puzzles and read anything to do with the church, especially the Book of Mormon, reading it 9 times. He was a member of the Salina American Legion. Zane was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as a Counselor in a Bishopric, Executive Secretary, Sunday School Teacher and a Temple Worker in the Manti Temple for over 9 years. There are numerous stories of him playing Lucifer in the Temple. Zane is survived by his children: Cheryl Damron of Layton; Zanaya and Paul Marriott of Ogden; Brian and Mona Caldwell of Island Park, Idaho; 17 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren; brothers: Dee Hatch of Loa and Gordon Hatch of Richfield; and a brother-in-law: Thad Torgerson of Cedar City. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Denise Walker; a step-daughter, Glenna Long; a step-son: Tracy Shaw; and four siblings: Morris Hatch, Chester Hatch, Lloyd Hatch and Cleola Torgerson. As per Zane's request there will be a public Graveside service with military honors accorded by the Salina American Legion Post #36 and the Utah Honor Guard held on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 12:00 Noon in the Aurora City Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
